New HENNA DAY!!!!!!!

It was that time again. TIME TO HENNA!!!!! LOL

About 2 days ago I gave my mother her henna treatment and got her length check done. I wanted to share the results with my fellow bloggers. I really feel that the program we are following has done wonders for her hair. It is looking fab if I do say so myself. So much so that I want to show you some more pictures.

The picture is not doing justice for her hair color but it still is nice and her curls are poppin.

We are looking at almost APL( arm pit length). I cut her hair in the beginning of the year because it was damage from apl to shoulder length. But we are now growing strong healthy hair which has grown fast.
I hope you enjoy and there will be more to come.

My Day Look

Since I love fresh looking curls everyday co washing is a very important part of my day time regi. I co wash in the shower because it is so much easier. You can use any cheap conditioner but I like to use the deep conditioner that is part of the mixed chicks set. I may only have to shampoo maybe 2x a month. Once I co wash the leave in condtioner is applied and left to air dry. Since the leave in has a hold to it when it air dries there is a bit of a crunch.

The next step is to rub your hands over your curls to take all the stiffness out of the curl and you can even use a oil. I use a spray shine to soften up my curls and they get so full and bouncy. You can then style them how ever you like. Most times I wear mines loose with part in middle or on side.

I find that this style has not cause me any breakage at all. But one important thing I forgot to mention is I don't comb my hair at all. I make sure there are no tangles in it while it is wet with my fingers. This will elemenate any frizz.

I really hope these tips help you with your curly girl look.

BHRINGRAJ & ORANGE PEEL POWDER

It is two days before my son gets married. I have been playing around with hair styles that I wanted to wear tomorrow for the HENNA PARTY. I thought I was going to wear it up in my 3 plaits which I pull up and tuck the ends under and put nice combs in. But I have to tell you that the curls have won again lol.

Image 1          Image 1

I have decided that I would pamper my hair tonight. I am sitting in Bhringraj and Orange Peel powder.
Bhringraj is an ancient ayurvedic herb widely known for its effectiveness against hair ailments. In ayurveda, the herb is used for treating hair loss, improving hair texture, and to stop premature balding and graying and various skin allergies. Alopecia sufferers will also find bhringraj to be beneficial in promoting hair regrowth. Even without suffering any ailments, bhringraj aids in luxurious hair growth.

The properties in orange peels are primarily antioxidant and astringent, making orange peel powder a natural in helping to prevent pimples and acne as well as prevent premature aging and wrinkling. Using orange peel powder in a face mask helps to reduce shine from excess oil and remove dead skin cells. It also softens and promotes shiny hair.

I try to remember to apply this paste to my hair every week. This along with the henna regiment that I use gives my hair what is needed to keep it strong and promote growth.

I will wash this mixure out with a moisturizing conditioner and let it air dry. I will end up with soft shiny hair. And since it is night I will apply jamican black castor oil to my scalp and hairveda whipped creme ends hydration to my hair and tie it up for the night. I will co wash in the morning.

HENNA DAY!!!!!!

After spending the night in the hospital thinking I was having a stroke or a brain bleed. I was so releived when I was told that it was the machine but sad to hear that they could not find out why my lip and mouth was num. So once I got home and rested up I decided to treat myself because all I could think about that night in the hospital is that I didn't have the things I needed for my hair.  0 LOL

Because I had such emotional day I decided to henna my hair earlier than I said. I had taken my BAQ out of the freezer and waiting to thaw while a rest. I applied my henna on wet hair and because my hair has gotten longer I had to section my hair off with clips and do one side at a time. Twist it on top of my head and place 2 plastic caps on my hair followed by my silk beanie and silk bonnet scarf.

I will sit with the henna on my hair over night and then condition wash until it all comes out. Looking forward to a very nice shiny head of hair as always.

Talk About Making a Difference !!!!!!!

Since the beginning of the year I have been taking care of my mother and daughter's natural hair and showing them how they can have nice curly hair. It also gave me the chance to see what worked on which texture hair. This first picture is of my mother's hair when I first started with her henna treatments and showing her how to condition wash her hair. I was also using Bhringraj powder for thickness.

This the beginning of my daughter's journey as well. For the both of them I would do a apple cider vinergar rinse which would remove any build up as well and restore their ph balance. My daughter never thought her hair would curl because the products we started out with did not work for her even though they worked well for my mother and I. My mother and I hair is just about the same texture. We could use mixed chicks or gel and would be fine. My daughter learned that she could use the curly girl method and just leave in conditioner in her dripping wet hair and allowing it to air dry. We all use the no comb method.

And this is what their hair looks like to this date. My daughter is still using the conditioner for her wash n go and my mother uses mixed chicks and love it.

Night Care

I wanted to talk a little about what I do to take care of my ends to retain my length as much as possible. I have stables in my regiment which are Jamaican Black Castor oil, which I purchase from http://www.ayurnaturalbeauty.com/, Whipped Creme ends hydration from www.hairveda.com. At night no matter what product I use for my curls during the day my hair is placed in 3 plaits after I apply JBCO (jamican black castor oil) to my scalp and massage in and then apply the Whipped Creme to my hair. I place them in 3 plaits and always tie my hair up with a silk scarf.

I tell you this method has help the over all health of my hair. I will get more into what comes next after the night in another post.

Well Hard Hair

I have been a bad girl. I stop protecting my ends and went back to curly girl. I also started to henna more often like every 2 weeks and I think I messed up my hair. I am just glad I caught it early. My hair feels hard and I don't know like I have protien overload.

Well what I did do after everyone gave me advice is a rainwash ( http://www.mehandi.com/shop/rainwash/index.html )

I can't wait to see how it turns out later after it dries. I sealed in my moisture with jbco.

As always thanks for listening, peace and love......

AVOCADO CONDITIONER

I wanted to post how I made mines because my hair can not stand protien and every recipe I seen had some kind of protien in it. Even though I am still sitting here with it in my hair I wanted to just let you all know what I used. I didn't measure any thing out either so I can not tell you a tsp of this and that.
1 large avocado
which I blended in my magic bullet
I then poured some honey in it until I thought it was enough because remember I used a large one
I then poured in some olive oil along with JBCO.

I stirred it and then applied it to my hair and placed a plastic cap on. I will be sitting with it on for about 2 hrs before I wash it. I will let you know how it turned out

KNOTS KNOTS and MORE KNOTS!!!!!

Ok the one thing that I wanted to share with everyone is about the knots that I have been reading about you are getting in the back of your hair in the nape area. I use castor oil and just rub it down the length of the hair. so even is I am curly or what the top hair is covering it so it will not look greasy nor mess up my style and this had cut down on the knots back there because they were getting on my last nerve. I guess you can use what ever oil you like but I find it better to use the jbco because it is heavy.

I have been using this method for a while now and I have not had any complaints. I check the area though out the day and have not found that I had to reapply by the time I get my hair ready for bed. Another thing I do is put gel on my problem area which is my edges. All my life that hair has always been different than the rest of my hair. Once I apply the gel I do not see a difference with my hair hot even if I move the hair.

As always thanks for reading, peace and much love!!

Curly Girl

Since 2002 I have been natural and completely understood that my hair type was not like others that could consume any type of chemicals. I had decided to go cold turkey on the chemicals and dye. I cut off all the chemical part and started applying henna to my hair and tried to do everything to work with my own hair. My one mistake was not reading up on henna and about the metal and other harmful things they added to the crop that was really bad for our hair. On top of that since I could not figure out why my hair was not growing back as fast as it did when I had the jeri curl in my hair I made the bad mistake of applying it to my hair to see if I could gain the growth back.  That was in 2008 and that is when I had a big set back and just like in 2002 when I went natural I had to cut all my hair off. Too much protein and the chemical process I started brushing my hair away. 12/2008 my hair had to be shaved. So I did what they call a big cut and started my journey to healthy hair.

I started reading hair forums about curly hair and what products to use to promote growth. There I learned about condition washing and curly puddings. I co wash my hair just about everyday because I love fresh curly hair. I take my moisturizing conditioners and wash my hair everyday. Once my hair is washed I apply Mixed Chicks leave in conditioner to my hair and let it air dry. I just love how light and bouncy my hair turns out.
To give you an idea of what the length points are this chart is what we go by.
My current length right now is Arm Pit Length and my goal is Hip Length. I will keep you posted on my progress as time goes on.
