Hair Vacation

My hair had to take a unscheduled vacation and I am not saying it is a happy one at this time. Made sure JBCO mix was packed along with Tresemme conditioner, Jojoba oil,  Vatika oil and my trusty spray bottle.

I really can not wait to get home to clarify and chelate my hair followed by a DC. I have since added Organix sulfate free shampoo because I thought I had heard so much talk about it. Now I am thinking of trying the shea moisture line to the mix it up a little to see how that sulfate free line will work for me. I am not ready to knock off the cones just yet but maybe if I keep up with the clarifying schedule they may still work in my regimen.

So my hair has been on vacation for 5 days now which is much longer than I would have done on my own. Since I co wash everyday lol. But there is nothing like getting home and taking that long shower and babying those tresses.

I had plenty of time to catch up on my reading which was a very good thing. What is so crazy is that I think I really found the problem to my split ends, YAAA!!! Since I still use silicone on my hair it would make since what they were saying in the book. I have to make sure that I remove the build up on my hair from the products that I use daily. So I made sure that I went and got me a Chelating and Clarifying shampoo. Making a calendar to keep up with the cleaning schedule of my hair and I mean on paper not just in my brain.

I want to try this new step on paper because in my mind I already thought I was doing it except for one step, that was chelating.

So with new products on hand lets see if I can retain more length faster.

So ladies like I always say, love your hair and it will love you back.
As always thanks for reading, peace and love!!!!!!

My Heart Is Warm

More family came forward this weekend to join the natural train. My dear Auntie told me on Saturday to cut it all off. I was like, WOW!!! Man that was great to have my aunt jump on board. She is 61yrs old and my mother's sister. I think once she seen my mother's hair and then her daughter's hair she felt more comfortable about putting her hair in my hands lol.

Her hair is naturally curly and I don't see any reason why she would have a problem taming her hair for wash n go's. She said just tell her what to do lol. I love those words. Co wash, apply the jbco mix to scalp every night, also gave her a curl defining leave in. I just need to start her out slow so she can adjust smoothly. I think she will be pleasantly surprise.

I really want to show her and her daughter the curly girl method. I really think it would work out well for them both. So now I have 2 sets of mother and daughter,( both my mother's  sisters ) to see which team will hang in to the finish. Right now I have 2 strong heads of curls from each team and it looks like out of the mother's my oldest aunt will be leading her sister but we will see. I hope to see them all at the end. I have let them each know that right now moisture is the most important thing to build in there hair. It has been so many years of their hair going without hydration and the damaging of their hair and their hair is so very thirsty right now, so now they have to learn how to lead their hair to the hose.

My daughter got her henna done on Friday along with a much needed trim and her curls are amazing and they are still changing.

Who is with me that loving your hair will make your hair love you back??

The Big Trim

Even though I have been trying so bad not to trim my ends I know that for the over all health of my hair, my ends need to be trimmed when there is a need to get rid of split ends. My schedule for my trims are usually set at every 3-4 months if needed and when February came along I did a search and destroy until I could no longer make that work.

Every night I was applying conditioner to give my ends as much nourishment as I could.  But I still could not stop my ends from looking like this..........

So late one night I jumped right in there to get rid of those split ends. I have to tell you that my hair is getting more oxygen and moisture. My curls pop and are more bouncy.

It was the right choice for my hair and it may not be the right choice for yours. We all look for different ways in keeping our length when growing our hair out. So there are no time lines for your trim schedule. Some wait a year before their trim maintenance and others every 6 months. Do what works for you and your hair but no matter what, Keep It Healthy.

Chicoro's Pre Poo

So I got this email with the recipe for a pre poo that really moisturize. Chicoro talks about how it is very important to do a pre treatment before you shampoo. Since I was planning on staying up last night to sew a little or to see how my arms and hands would stand up to sewing. I thought why not try this out.
So this is the recipe.
 Ingredients you will need:
In a bowl mix
· ½ cup of aloe vera juice or whole leaf aloe vera
· 1-2 tablespoons of your favorite oil (wheat germ, olive, safflower, walnut etc)
In a separate Bowl melt
· Food grade coconut oil (1/4 cup)
· Sit the bottle or jar in hot water- do not put in microwave or on the stove!
Remember, everyone's hair has different needs. You may need more or less of this mixture. Or, your hair may not like this at all. None of these will irrevocably change your hair. Thus, you just need to wash out the mixture if your hair doesn't like it.
  1. Using your fingers, separate your hair into 4- 8 sections. If your hair is caked with hard product, rinse your hair first. Gently handle the first section. First, smooth the hair in a downward direction. You are just trying to make sure that all the hair is going in one direction. You don't need to completely detangle the hair at this point.
  1. Dip your hair in the bowl of aloe vera and oil or cup your hands in the mixture and transfer it to the section onto your hair. Work it through. Get the aloe vera/oil mix into your hair from root to tip. Make sure it is moist throughout the sectioned hair. If your hair is long enough, twist it and wrap it around like a bantu knot. If it is not, try to twist it and move it out the way. Repeat until you have done this to each section.
  1. You should have a head full of aloe vera mixed with oil twisted sections. Go back to the first twist you did. Undo it, pour the liquid coconut oil in your hand and work through the section. Re-twist it and repeat on whole head. Place a plastic shower cap on your head for 15-60 minutes. Your moisturizing pre-poo is complete!
And moisturized it was, I loved how soft my hair was that I kept it on all night or all morning because that is when I went to bed lol.

I am glad that I could past this email on so others could benefit and thanks to Chicoro for sharing.

Ladies love your hair and it will love you back.

Sheba My Love

So my baby Sheba has been suffering with a bladder infection for over a month now. I took her to the ER Vet and they gave us antibiotics for cats which were  drops and I thought it was a good idea thinking it would just slide down her throat. The only problem is that it was 2x's a day and that meant chasing her around the house to force her to take it... lol. That didn't go over well. She doesn't make anything easy around here. She is the Diva in the house and she has no problem letting us all know it. Everyone knows that I am real serious about taking care of my little Diva.

So here we are again trying the pills out this time and she wont even eat her food. She was eating yesterday so I don't understand why she is giving so much interruption of the flow and this is her favorite, chicken baby food. But they did say she may smell the meds in the food.

Taking my mind off of her laying her in pain is my hair. I did my henna a week early and because I just wanted to have something to talk about I use Indigo over the henna.

I have to say it came out quite well. I have still have red but less of it and darker. It is loved for now. LOL!!

I am hoping in waiting on Sheba's recovery she doesn't turn my hair grey too soon. But I will not complain about growth, it is always welcome.

Smooth Smooth and More Smooth

Let me tell you what I found out! My hair just could not stand when I would plait it at night after doing a wash n go. I would moisturize it with Hairveda whipped ends and plait it into 3 plaits for the night and wash n go the next day. What was happening was that my ends were splitting and I would end up with more frizz and more trims. And we all know that I am trying to hold on to as much of my hair that I can, so we have to cut the trims out.

Frizz is not the look I am going for every day. I know there are ladies that do not mind having frizz, but not me. So all my new hairs that are growing in and they are sticking straight up in the air lol. I need all ends and new hair to be laying flat at all times.

So every night I take a spray bottle full of water and then take 4 sections and spray down with water and then take a quarter amount of conditioner and run through each section. Smooth from root to ends and make sure it is all detangled and saturated with the conditioner and plait each section.

I make sure I tie my hair up with my silk scarf for the night. The next day I co wash and do a wash n go. I love the way my hair turns out. Will keep you up to date but plan on doing this until June when I do my next length check to see how much length I retained.
