Broke Down....Gave In...

This is the color I am waiting for!!

So I broke down and gave in, applied henna to my hair last night and washed it out about 4am since I stay up all night I have decided to do my hair at night so I don't have to sit and wait for my hair to dry and I can enjoy it more during the day light hours. You know how sometimes you say you are going to do something but it just don't work out that way? Well this is one of those times. Henna is just one of those things that keep calling your name. Once you get the real taste of it there is no going back. When I say the real taste of it I mean that there are still a lot of people that really don't know what henna is. So they go to the store and see a box on the shelf and it says henna so it must me be, right? There are so many things that one should learn about henna and where it comes from and what it is used for and how it only comes in one color before they attempt to use henna. I learned the hard way and lost my hair because of it. And what I mean by lost my hair I had to cut off so much length because I was just grabbing any old thing that said henna in the grocery store. Because it wasn't sifted and because there were metals in the ones I was using it damaged my hair instead of healing it as henna can do.

This is what henna should look like. No sticks and no gritty dirt feeling. Just nice smooth feeling to it when you touch it.

This is the henna that I use now. Learning about a product is your best lesson if you really want to do something new to your hair. Not just listening to what others say to you about this and that because everyone hair is different and everyone is going to have a different result. Where did they get their information from? That goes for anything, research it yourself.

Henna For Hair is a great book to read if you would like to learn about henna and where it comes from. This book help me to be able to start all over again and this time do it right. Henna will also loosen the curl pattern in your hair and just because your hair is not grey you will still get the benefit of the gloss and shine that henna gives to the hair.

The end result is that you have soft, glossy hair to the touch. I co-wash my hair to get the henna out and then I deep condition my hair once I am finish but I don't use shampoo at all. I may shampoo my hair before applying the henna but if I don't, I make sure that my hair is wet and it maybe just a apple cider vinegar rinse because it is much easier to apply the henna to wet hair.

There are other things that you have to learn about henna as far as preparing it and leaving it over night before application and how long to leave it on the hair before washing it out. The link that I placed in this article will point you in the right direction to begin your henna journey. We will talk about henna again but I just wanted to update you on what I did through the wee hours of the night LOL.

Love your hair and it will love you back.
As always thanks for reading, peace and love!!!!!!

My New Sleeping Cap

OK this is just going to be a very quick review. I just received my new sleeping cap from blendedbeauty.com and I have to say that I really like it. I really beat up my silk one and I use it a lot for when I henna my hair so it has henna color all over it and it don't make for a nice clean look. I would have gotten another one but every time I went back to that website they were out of stock.

OK here it is. It has a drawstring at the top so that you can make it as tight or loose as you need it to be and the elastic is not annoying which is the problem that I have with some sleeping caps. I cannot stand feeling the elastic around my head which is why I cannot do the baggy method too much over night. Which is really a bummer.

Keeping Up with the Jone's

Every since I started my journey I have been trying to figure out what would work for me and how can I get that nice flowy hair down to my butt in a fast way. I jumped on the Mega Tek and jumped on the sulfur band wagon and what I found is neither one of them was for me. My hair does not like protein and to my surprise it doesn't like sulfur. What did all that get me? it got me split ends, rough ends and ends I had to eventually cut off. Which meant I lost length and that was the last thing I was trying to do.

Don't get me wrong I am in no way saying that these things are bad for you, I am saying that they didn't work for me. You need to find out if what everyone else is doing to get the results they are getting with their hair will work for you and I found out that they didn't work for me. And since these set backs I have decided to start with a hair calendar as I may have said already and I will be trimming my ends every 6 months. I am hoping that this works and I don't have to do any cutting before that time. Because of the problems I had with my ends this month I didn't do my henna treatment because I don't want to do too many things while I am getting my hair to heal. Not saying that henna is harming but remember my hair is sensitive to protein and henna can act like a protein treatment.

I remember someone had asked me about why mineral oil and petroleum oil etc. was not good for the hair and I could not remember at that time so I had to pulled my books out to see what was said. Come to find out what one of the problems is that they will not allow the moisture to penetrate the hair. From what I have been reading they are not good at all for our hair.

And as you can see petroleum oil is for your car and it is the first ingredient in grease for your hair. I used the picture of the baby oil just to show you how innocent it can be that we will grab things to put in our hair just because it is made for the baby, so it most be safe right?

Well just some things that came to my mind while I was waiting to fall back to sleep lol.
Love your hair and it will love you back.

What WORKS FOR YOU!!!

I love to think while I'm walking..... even if it is just pasting back and forth through out the house. Just the other day I took the grands out for our first fall walk this year, yeah those new meds are really working sometimes.. but that's another story.

This is one of our fall pictures that was taken during our thinking walk. When we got home I downloaded our pictures to the computer. I gave the boys a look as I started looking through the post on the hair forum to see what I missed while we were out. I came across a thread asking about if you thought you could make it to HL by then end of 2012. Of course I knew there was no way I would make it but a feeling and urge came over me to flatiron. After the boys went home I gave in to my whimms and washed and flat ironed my hair just to take a good look at my length, and to my surprise the damage was reveled. I wanted to cry because you know that meant losing more length added to what broke off from the damage ends. The scissors came out and when I was done 1/2 to 1 inch was removed around my whole head.

My first thought was I was going back to what I know was working for me. Well at least I will get a healthy start and it was caught before too much damage was done. Water? look like you were my friend from the very beginning. I was co washing everyday and doing the curly girl method and never had any problems and my hair was growing. But I got greedy and started chasing the faster growth. I tell you what else was a wake-up call, hearing MahoganyCurls talk about keeping it simple and doing what works for you with out jumping on everyone else bang wagon. Which is something I got caught up into. Hear listen for yourself.

Another thing I did was went chasing after this

argan oil. Everyone was talking so much about it I started looking into all the pricing for it. LOL I tell you like I said that dream. I remembered my ex-husband's wife was from Morocco and I knew she would have some so I gave her a call and I was right lol she had it. She was like sure you can have some. You don't think I went running. There was no way I was going to spend $20-$30 for an ounce on something that maybe cut. Well I have it and I do use it on my wet hair before I put the conditioner in for styling.

Right now I am sticking to my hair not liking products without cones. I am trying to use up my stash and my hair is still feeling dry by the end of the day after using cone-free conditioners. So until my hair tells me something different I will stick with my Mixed Chicks and my creamy conditioners. I am trying Tresemme tight now and I will have to tell you later what my hair thinks about it. I got the flawless curls, I know I said I was done with the spending, well I didn't have to pay for it because it was on sale at KMart and I used my reward points... LOL Great, uh???

Well ladies as I say and it is no lie, love your hair and it will love you back.

Hiding Those ENDS!!!

Plaits, plaits and more plaits....

After fighting with my wash n go's and not getting back to what was once a lovely relationship between hair and products I have decided if I want to  make it to waist length by 2013 I need to give in to protecting my ends as much as possible. We are talking about less than a 1 1/2 years if I take into the year 2013. And only if one stays on the schedule you have setup for yourself can this be achieved. Lets face it, you can only hope and pray that it all works out to the plan that you've laid out because nothing is a given and nothing is for sure.

Seeing the wash n go... go from my everyday life and being my signature was a hard pill to swallow.

 Can you see the TEARS??

But we are told over and over again that there is great reward for loving and babying your ends, to protect them from breakage. So girl ya.. just so there are no mishaps with all the trying this product and that product I just had to give in. Give in to a winter break, if I can last.. LOL because we all know me, my mind  changes like the wind.

I am sticking with my stables as far as what I moisturize my hair with. Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Whipped Creme ends Hydration by Hairveda, and newly added
Dabur Vatika enriched coconut oil, oh oh don't let me forget Shea Butter and yes every last one of them are used all at one time on each strand.

I have talked about this in the past where to purchase the products that I use but I will add the websites for those who may have missed them. Like the castor oil is from www.ayurnaturalbeauty.com the whipped creme www.hairveda.com coconut oil from amazon the indian shop and last but not least shea butter is picked up from the old fashion street vendor lol.

I am trying my best not to do a length check until December because I will be very upset if I did not make my goal which is bra strap by the end of the year 2011. I don't use heat on my hair so length checks are done with my hair wet and loaded with conditioner to give that heavy feel for more stretch. That's all I have for now.

Ladies love your hair and it will love you back.
